Intellectual property rights are therefore essential for the proper development of a company and constitute a barrier in the event of industrial conflict. On the surface, <a href=\"https:\/\/gac.idexlab.com\/resources\/open-innovation-examples\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Open Innovation<\/a>, which is based on a <a href=\"http:\/\/gac.idexlab.com\/resources\/collaborative-innovation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">system of sharing and exchange<\/a>, would therefore constitute a threat to the competitiveness of the company. But in reality, it is more like two sides of the same coin, especially since it is now possible to combine information exchange and data protection thanks to blockchain technology!<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Intellectual property and Open Innovation in companies: from exclusivity to complementarity?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Intellectual property takes different forms, including the filing of patents. As the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wipo.int\/portal\/en\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">World Intellectual Property Organization<\/a> states, patents allow to :<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Establish exclusive rights<\/strong> that entitle your company to use the patented innovation for 20 years, but also to grant or sell the licence to a third party<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Provide a strong market position and increased bargaining power<\/strong> by reducing competition in your market and conducting cross-licensing<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Increase the reputation of your company<\/strong> as it will be recognised for its ability to innovate and develop new products or services<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Yes, Open Innovation in business is possible!<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But working with <a href=\"http:\/\/gac.idexlab.com\/resources\/success-open-innovation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Open Innovation in business<\/a> is perfectly conceivable if you accept its underlying notion of sharing while taking into account the intellectual property aspects.
