{"id":537,"date":"2014-06-24T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2014-06-24T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gac.idexlab.com\/blog\/open-innovation-automotive-industry\/"},"modified":"2025-04-08T09:39:36","modified_gmt":"2025-04-08T09:39:36","slug":"open-innovation-automotive-industry","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gac.idexlab.com\/?p=537","title":{"rendered":"Open Innovation in the Automotive Industry"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Open Innovation &amp; Automotive<\/h2>\n<div><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">Open Innovation in the French Automotive Industry by Romaric Servajean-hilst, is an interesting study published at the European Academy of Management\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">EURAM 2014\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span>that can be <a title=\"open innovation in French automotive inductry\" href=\"http:\/\/www.academia.edu\/7394700\/Open_Innovation_in_the_French_Automotive_Industry_the_case_of_a_purchasing_function_detecting_external_knowledge_and_triggering_its_absorption\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">read here<\/a>.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>With an ethnographic approach, the author shows that &#8220;the trigger of absorptive capacity is made up of two\u00a0sequences of activation of the same knowledge-related mechanisms linked by one people-related mechanism.&#8221;<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Namely, two main departments are involved in the Open Innovation processes of the company. Firstly, the &#8220;Innovation Purchasing&#8221; department does a systematic scouting for new technology and innovations and selects the best candidates. The resulting knowledge is &#8216;adopted&#8217; by the purchasing department staff before it is &#8216;contextualized&#8217; in concrete scenarios and transferred to R&amp;D in an &#8216;enrolment&#8217; process, including &#8220;tech days&#8221; presentations.<\/div>\n<div><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">Then, once an internal R&amp;D leader is identified, he or she follows the same two stages process that leads eventually to a product or prototype project.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">These two stages (purchasing, R&amp;D) and their interface define the absorptive capacity of the company. \u00a0The author shows the importance of the social relationships between the actors in the overall efficiency of the open innovation process.\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>My personal take away from the full article is that Open Innovation can be extremely powerfull to increase the creativity and the competitvity of a company provided that the approach is global and adopted by the main internal stakeholders.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><a href=\"http:\/\/www.fx.polytechnique.edu\/accueil\/actualites\/romaric-servajean-hilst-rencontre-avec-ce-doctorant-feru-d-innovation-302319.kjsp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Romaric Servajean-hilst<\/a>\u00a0is a PhD student at Ecole Polytechnique, France.<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Open Innovation &amp;
